MIYLT Camp, or Michigan Youth Leadership Training Camp, is held every year at Camp Tuhsmeheta in Greenville. Camp is about a week long and only costs $20 per camper.

They also provide scholarships. You can access forms on their website.

The camp is for the youth that are in 9th to 12th grade. At this camp you will learn how to work with other people from all over Michigan in one week. You will get to learn how to make yourself better leader and learn how to work around other people’s strengths and weaknesses. Throughout the time at camp, campers will be asked to reflect on things that they could have done differently. Strengths and weaknesses are a main focus. The campers will be challenged both in a negative and positive way. Each activity pulls in a reality check for everyone, including the group leaders. Each camper will experience a life changing moment at least once a day. Each individual will be challenged in many ways mentally and physically. They will be confused and stressed out at times but by the end of the day they will realize why they said and did certain things.

Although being a camper is a one time thing, campers are welcomed back the next year to be an assistant group leader or even a group leader. Those applications are also on MIYLT’s website.

“I didn’t learn how to be a leader. I learned how to be myself and it just so happens that I am a leader.””

— 2016 MIYLT Camper

Posted on their website it says,  “Ultimate goals at MIYLT are to: Motivate action for the common good. Enhance awareness of social, political, and environmental issues. Build capacity for taking effective action –individually, in groups, and in organizations. Strengthen abilities to work cooperatively across races, ethnicities, genders, geographies, and socio economic backgrounds.”

MIYLT Camp is going to be June 25th, 2017 until June 30th, 2017. On the website you can find more about the camp. You can also find what past campers have said. For example, “I didn’t learn how to be a leader. I learned how to be myself and it just so happens that I am a leader.” -2016 MIYLT Camper
